Description

Theofilus is an eccentric Tremere who cares, perhaps too deeply, about interior design. He inherited a large sum of money from his sire, who scouted him to work as chantry architect in 1500s Brugge. A part of the Kindred world since the early days of the Camarilla, he secretly holds disdain for humans and wishes for a return to the days before the First Inquisition, when vampires ruled, if not openly, brazenly.

Timeline
  • 1503–Born in Brugge, Southern Netherlands.
  • 1515–As Brugge experiences economic decline, Theofilus moves to Antwerpen, disguising himself as a man ostensibly to apprentice at a stonemason workshop.
  • 1528–A scout for the Vienna chantry, Johann Fischer, encounters Theofilus attempting demonic rituals and, upon learning his background, makes Theofilus his ghoul as the price for secrecy.
  • 1528-1531–Assists in building the Antwerpen chantry.
  • 1531-1560–The success of the Anterpwen pleases Johann, who brings him along to establish other Tremere chantries across the Holy Roman Empire.
  • 1560–Johann Embraces Theofilus as a reward for decades of service to the Tremere.
  • 1566–Finishes Accounting. Due to his time as a ghoul, it was a short Accounting (for the time). Theofilus is presented at the Camarilla court in Brussels, but he and Johann soon travel to Vienna due to rising tensions that culminate in what is now called the Eighty Year’s War.
  • 1618-1648–Yet another war follows the pair. While the 30 Years’ War is largely considered one of the bloodiest wars in European history, with what is now Germany experiencing a population decline of 50%, the Tremere headquarters are well fortified. Despite the carnage, Theofilus experiences a period of unprecedented freedom to wander Vienna.
  • 1683–The Battle of Vienna occurs after a months-long siege by the Ottoman Empire. It ends in Ottoman defeat.
  • 1699–As part of the Great Turkish War, Transylvania is ceded to the Holy Roman Empire. The Tremere take this opportunity to try and retake territory lost in the Omen Wars to the Tzimisce. While not an adept battle mage, Theofilus is sent to the frontlines to help provide fortification and wards. The effort is a resounding failure. Theofilus returns to Vienna with other survivors in disgrace.
  • 1700–Theofilus is relocated to London along with Johann, where the Tremere clan carries little power. With little to do in terms of official tasks, he begins to reintegrate into human society, opening an atelier.
  • 1712–To avoid suspicion due to his lack of aging, Theofilus ghouls a journeyman architect, Sam Reynolds, and helps him to achieve the rank of master architect before retiring to a more behind-the-scenes role. Reynolds is given official control of the atelier, but all power remains in Theofilus’ hands.
  • 1779–The Armada of 1779 sees the French and Spanish unite in a failed attempt to invade Great Britain.
  • 1790–The Reign of Terror in full swing, Edmund Burke publishes Reflections on the Revolution in France. Frustrated with the lack of opportunity for mystical research in London and weary of the prospect of living through another chaotic war spreading to Great Britain, Johann moves to New York City, taking Theofilus with him. Theofilus neglects to bring Reynolds. Camarilla leadership had only claimed the city in 1768, and Johann and Theofilus are among the first Tremere in the city, allowing them to quickly gain prominence in the local chantry.
  • 1835–The Great Fire of New York, a deadly accident which burns thirteen acres of city blocks, plays cover for a spontaneous uprising of Sabbat packs in the city. Johann and Theofilus flee to Chicago. Following this incident, the pair becomes quasi-nomadic, helping establish chantries in various North American cities.
  • 1976–Following the The Greenback Coup, Theofilus and Johann return to New York City to help with its redevelopment. Missing the era of the Clan’s ascendency, they are largely excluded from the mechanisms of the Chantry of the Five Boroughs. Though the following years are tumultuous, the pair remain relatively settled in the Bronx for several decades, keeping a low profile.
  • 2003–The end of the Sabbat-Camarilla war in New York City allows Johann and Theofilus to reunite with the Camarilla court.
  • 2008–The Tremere Pyramid collapses. Shortly after, the Night of Ash and Fire occurs. Johann burns alive in front of Theofilus. Theofilus is devastated and largely withdraws from society, Kindred and kine.
  • 2017–Impressed by the ability of the Anarchs to hold parley with the Camarilla, Theofilus officially joins the Anarch Movement, offering his services as a haven renovator.
