Bio

Lady Nyx was born in France on March 12, 1749 amongst the rabble of the Commedia Dell'arte, a travelling performance group. It was very clear from a young age that she would be an amazing entertainer and her parents did everything they could to encourage her to hone her talents. The Commedia cast put young Nyx to work at the tender age of six, using her to fill the roles of young children. Her ability to entrance and mesmerize the crowd blossomed as she grew older. This, eventually, caught the eye of the person who would one day save and reshape her life forever.

The night of her 35th birthday, the troupe found themselves in Italy, after her final performance of the night, Lady Nyx was accosted and left for dead in a dark alleyway. Her sire, a patron of the arts and an admirer of the Commedia, found her and offered her a semblance of new life. She took his offer and he took her hand, he introduced her to a new troupe, loosely affiliated with the Commedia Dell’arte. This troupe only performed late at night into the predawn morning. He helped her hone and sharpen the vampirically enhanced mesmer abilities, which made it easier to fool and manipulate the humans that would come to spectate. That was until Napoleon Bonaparte started his banning of the Commedia Dell’Arte in 1797, some people just couldn't handle political satire.

The troupe left the areas included in Napoleon’s ban and took their shows to places where his enemies enjoyed the jokes about him. As Napoleon started to wage his war in 1799, the troupe started to make arrangements to leave Europe and travel to the recently, in vampire years, formed States of America. During their flight to flee Europe, one of Lady Nyx’s acquaintances, Amalya "Zurvan" Marion, heard of a plight that led her to want to stay until certain things were determined (These things will likely be explained more in Amalya’s Backstory or CCD.) She said goodbye to her friend and made sure to extend an invitation for Amalya to join them in the states if they ever decided to travel there.

Once arrangements were made with their contact Bob the Nos, Lady Nyx, Sage and her sire, set sail for New Orleans in 1805. Though the voyage was fraught with peril, they managed to make it to port and safety without being exposed. New Orleans proved to be the perfect place to practice the arts and celebrate the occult, they’re fascination with voodoo and “dark arts” made it easy to blend in with the nightlife. After some time, the wanderlust started to nip at their heels and the troupe started to spread out across the United States as it continued to expand. There were several mishaps and near discoveries, Lady Nyx’s skills were put to the test many times. One such incident inspired Ray Bradbury’s “Something Wicked This Way Comes.” Thankfully, Lady Nyx was able to subtly mesmerize the author and influence him enough to create a trilogy, “Green Town Trilogy.” Thus preventing anyone from taking the tale too seriously. In fact, it inspired a whole future generation of fans for the night time entertainment Lady Nyx’s troupe provided.

As the years went by, members of the troupe came and went, some branching off to start their own carnivals, sideshows and theatres or got scattered by the many wars that ravaged the early years of American civilization. Lady Nyx’s sire decided to get embroiled in the politics of Little Rock and became the Prince. This led him to retire the shows and hand it over to Nyx. Nyx took over the business and rebranded it “The Sideshow,” brazenly showing her face to the world on posters and ads. Such behavior was uncommon for those in vampiric society and incredibly dangerous. As cellphones and social media became more common use, Lady Nyx stopped giving more a day’s notice of when “The Sideshow” would be held. The location is always random and remote. The only consistency was that the shows were once a month and always at night. Posters would be out on Thursdays, shows on Friday and Saturday Nights, and by Monday morning it was all gone.

This random and hectic schedule (which was never posted online), not only grew the fan base, but also made it more difficult for enemies of vampires to keep track of them. Bob the Nos, Sage and Lady Nyx formed a well resourced coterie that made investigations into them very difficult. They are sure they have made enemies and do their best to stay one step ahead of them.

At some point, Amalya made their own journey to America and settled in Oklahoma City. As the political atmosphere showed promise to be better for the Autarkis, they reached out to “The Sideshow.” The group joined them, meeting Byron Dogwood in the process. It was soon discovered that Byron and Nyx had something in common. One of Byron’s former coterie mates was none other than Lady Nyx’s sire. Byron informed her that he had left the coterie and Little Rock shortly before Nyx’s sire had mysteriously disappeared. Lady Nyx, with the approval of the other Coterie members, invited both Amalya and Byron to join their coterie…and thus “The Sideshow” was complete. They used their resources and connections to help each other out, though Lady Nyx does her best to keep herself out of Sect and Bloodline squabbles. Such things she sees as boring and a waste of a perfectly good unlife.

Rumors

What stories surrounding “The Sideshow” and Lady Nyx in the vampiric community are interesting to say the least. “The Sideshow” does it’s best to stick together and have each other’s back, but the other members keep as much of the backlash of any choice meddling in affairs, far from the Lady. Rumors around Lady Nyx tell of some vampires trying to antagonize and bully her into joining annoying feuds, only to find themselves covering their faces with a nauseating concoction and raving madly about it. Sometimes, it has gone so far that they have quietly left vampiric society and any affairs on their behalf are handled by others.

Intermittent whispers have lighted on vampiric ears of an event hosted by Lady Nyx and The Sideshow on Halloween night for the last several year, the “Cirque Du Nocte”.Those who have attended tell tales of grandiose spectacles and an even more impressive hunt, held on a secluded island. This event is rumored to be by invitation only, those who wish to procure an invite must make arrangements with members of “The Sideshow.” No Political or Bloodline infighting is EVER allowed, those who have crossed the line, have never been asked to return, unless they offer Lady Nyx a Major Boon.
