Ved Nexus
Further Information
Once, Ved was a sharp-eyed detective with a rugged face that carried the weight of too many late nights and too many bad cases. Now, his reflection—if he had one—would be unrecognizable. His skin has turned a sickly, mottled gray, stretched too thin over a frame that seems both gaunt and swollen in unnatural ways. His nose has shrunk into something barely more than a cavity, and his once-deep brown eyes have clouded into milky pools that still somehow see too much.
Years spent in the underground haven’t been kind; his clothes are tattered but carefully patched, a mix of old detective attire and whatever he can scavenge. A long, weathered trench coat hides much of his disfigurement, and the old fedora he refuses to part with casts his face into shadow. The scent of damp earth clings to him, mingled with something acrid—like a basement long abandoned.
Yet, despite his monstrous appearance, Ved moves with a quiet, practiced confidence. His voice, when he speaks, is a low rasp, but it carries the same determination he had in life. His hands—now long-fingered and clawed—still itch for the feel of a case file, still move with the muscle memory of jotting down notes. He is a creature of the dark now, but his instincts remain those of a detective. The city may have abandoned its missing, but Ved never will.
1925 – Born in Belmont, NJ
Grew up in a working-class neighborhood with a strong sense of community but a rising crime rate. Witnessed firsthand how organized crime thrived in the shadows, especially during Prohibition.
1943-1945 – Serves in WWII
Enlisted at 18, serving in military intelligence, gaining experience in investigation and interrogation. The war hardened him, but he returned home with a determination to clean up Belmont.
1946-1955 – Early Years on the Force
Joined the police force, initially as a beat cop, navigating post-war crime waves and racial tensions. Promoted to detective in 1952 after busting a major smuggling operation with suspected ties to the supernatural.
1956-1960 – The Case That Changed Everything
Investigated a string of disappearances tied to a nightclub called The Hollow, an underground jazz club known for catering to the city’s elite. Witnesses spoke of people going in but never coming out—especially young activists and musicians pushing for civil rights. The deeper Ved dug, the more the case veered into the bizarre—vanishing bodies, altered memories, and a growing sense that something inhuman was at play. A lead took him to a secret room beneath the club, where he uncovered evidence of something feeding off the missing victims—and then the lights went out.
1960 – The Embrace
Instead of dying that night, Ved was Embraced into Clan Nosferatu. Whether it was a punishment, a twisted gift, or a desperate act by a rogue Kindred, he still doesn’t fully know. Woke up in the sewers, disfigured, with the knowledge that the true monsters had been operating under his nose all along.
1961-Present – The Hunt Continues
Uses his Nosferatu connections to dig deeper into the city’s supernatural underbelly. The Hollow may be gone, but Ved knows the predator behind it is still out there—and he’s going to find it.
Ved is a former detective who got in too deep. He is from Belmont, NJ, and became a police officer to improve his neighborhood. The psychological rush of living on the edge has gotten him into more trouble than he’d like, but he will always respect the boys in blue.
“He didn’t get Embraced—he cut a deal.” Some say Ved wasn’t a victim but made a choice, selling his humanity in exchange for power or knowledge.
“He’s still working with the cops.” Whether it’s true or not, some Kindred whisper that Ved still passes information to mortal law enforcement, making him either an asset or a liability.
“The case isn’t closed.” Whatever he was investigating before his Embrace? It never really ended, and he’s still chasing the truth in the shadows.
“His Sire regretted it.” There are whispers that Ved was meant to die that night, and whoever turned him did so impulsively—possibly even against the rules.
“He’s hunting something worse.” Some say Ved isn’t just another Nosferatu information broker—he’s tracking something even the undead fear.
